SoundField reveals the revolutionary new X-1 Audio Upmix and Downmix Processor at IBC 2011

HHB Communications is introducing SoundField’s new X-1 Audio Upmix and Downmix Processor at IBC 2011 in Hall 8 (Stand 8.D56).Â

The X-1 is a new innovative tool for 5.1 to stereo upmix and downmix transmission that is housed in a compact 1U hardware box. The X-1utilises the same upmix algorithm as established in SoundField’s UPM-1 upmix processor, which is already highly regarded by many major broadcasters as an innovative and cost-saving solution for stereo to 5.1 upmix.

With these concepts in mind, the X-1 has been designed to allow upmix and downmix processes to run simultaneously while inserted on user configurable input and output channels. It is also possible to insert the downmix process immediately after the upmix process for downmix quality control purposes.Â

HHB’s Director of Sales Martin O’Donnell says, “We are very excited about the arrival of the X-1. SoundField has a history of developing innovative products in this area that have been very successful with our customers throughout our long-standing relationship with the company. The X-1 will quickly become a standard tool for major broadcasting events the world over.”

The X-1 is equipped with a full complement of AES digital inputs and outputs on BNC, and all metadata parameters of both the upmix and downmix processes are accessible via either USB or Ethernet through a dedicated PC application. The parameters can either be adjusted in real-time or stored for standalone use. Further control of pre-sets is also possible through a user configurable GPIO port. Two fully redundant power supplies and hard bypass audio are featured for full redundancy.

HHB is also exhibiting SoundField’s new portable, battery-powered ST450 microphone system. Created to address the needs of location recording, film and TV sound specialists, the ST450 generates audio in any format, including mono, stereo, M/S, 5.1 surround and beyond, without the need for more than one mic. New features have also been integrated to streamline the conversion of information captured by ST450’s four-capsule array, which results in a more accurate stereo and surround imaging. The new mic weighs just 290g and can be used at a distance of up to 200 metres from its associated control unit.Â
