HHB Communications has supplied The Backstage Centre with the audio equipment for a new state-of-the-art, 48-channel recording studio.
Located just outside of London in Purfleet, The Backstage Centre offers a fully-equipped space for all types of production rehearsal and training requirements, from large-scale theatre and opera, to arena-scale band rehearsals and recording facilities.
The Centre’s recording studio is centred around a 48-channel Audient 8024 analogue console with 48 bus modification and integral patchbay, and a Pro Tools HDX system with 48 analogue I/O. It also features a 4-fader Avid Artist Control touchscreen control surface, industry-standard outboard gear from Universal Audio, Thermionic Culture, DBX and TC Electronic, plus Mogami professional audio cables and Genelec loudspeakers, all supplied and installed by HHB’s sales and technical team.
Internationally renowned producer Robin Millar is the member of the centre’s Board of Trustees who was put in charge of specifying the studio’s equipment. He called on HHB to provide a full recording studio that provides the ability to record from both its 5×7 metre live room and the 35×25 metre sound stage. Once installed, leading acoustician Andy Munroe was employed to put the finishing touches to the studio’s acoustics.
The Centre’s Technical Co-ordinator Jonathan Roberts is very pleased with the Audient console, as he feels it provides an exceptional learning tool and a great sounding mixer for aspiring engineers. He explains: “The audio equipment was provided by a grant from the Arts Council England, who specified that it should comprise high-quality, industry standard equipment for students to gain the knowledge to work in any recording studio in the world. South Essex College will be delivering its Recording Degree from here starting this September and the instructors are very impressed with our facilities.”
He continues: “HHB were very helpful and knowledgeable throughout the entire process and within two days of the console being delivered we had a fully functioning, professional recording studio.”
HHB International Sales Manager Matthew Fletcher comments: “We are very happy to have worked with The Backstage Centre in providing professional recording equipment that fits their requirements and budget. Robin Millar’s expertise, combined with the contributions of Andy Munroe and the services and equipment supplied by HHB have made the Backstage Centre a world-class facility.”
