The presence of a U89 makes the same statement as that of the U87, but some users prefer the slightly different timbre brought by the dual diaphragm capsule with extended frequency response. Five switchable polar patterns are available (as opposed to 3 on the U87) – omnidirectional, wide-angle cardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid and figure of 8. A -6dB pad is included along with a 2-position LF roll-off switch.
