Encore completes Sound and Picture Post on Fortitude following Avid upgrades from Scrub

Scrub, a division of HHB specialising in audio post-production, has supplied two 16-fader S6 M10 control surfaces and Pro Tools HD upgrades for Encore Post Production’s award-winning London facilities.

HHB has also worked with Encore Head of Sound David Old on an S6 video interview that outlines how the controls surface combined with Pro Tools
provides Encore’s engineers an incredible amount of speed and creative freedom. View the video here.

Based in the heart of London’s Soho, Encore is a leading supplier of Post Production Services covering all areas and genres of picture and sound post-production. All five of Encore’s sound mixing studios have been recently updated by Scrub to HDX2 and the latest Pro Tools 11 software, with the new S6 control surface being installed in Studios 2 and 3.

The upgrades came in time for Encore to take on the post-production sound duties for Tiger Aspect and Fifty Fathoms’ highly anticipated TV series “Fortitude” for Sky Atlantic. Encore Sound Editorial Supervisor Chris Roberts explains: “Fortitude is an exciting and ambitious show for Encore Sound to be involved with. It was immediately apparent from my first reading of the scripts that the series represented some really bold storytelling and offered some great creative opportunities, so it was imperative to have the right team and the right tools.”

To properly handle a project of this magnitude, Encore brought together a team of four sound editors, a sound designer, two music editors and a Foley department all delivering tracks into the mix from different locations. “Having the new Pro Tools systems in the Encore mix rooms gave me the confidence to know that whatever we delivered would run, no matter how complex, and that re-recording mixer Howard Bargroff would have the ability to shape the tracks into a great soundtrack without having to make any technical compromises in the process,” Chris says.

Howard particularly embraced the benefits of Pro Tools 11 that helped his mix stay in sync with the cut as VFX elements evolved, and efficiently deliver stems that would be used to produce the multiple versions required by the various production partners.

Encore Director of Operations Johnny Whitehead comments: “Tiger Aspect set extremely high production standards for this project and Howard, Chris and the team did a fantastic job in delivering a world-class audio mix that perfectly compliments the beautiful, atmospheric and unsettling frozen landscape that Colourist Jet Omoshebi helped to create. The Avid S6 is an incredibly ergonomic console that enables our mixers to work in a highly efficient and intelligent fashion and produce outstanding mixes.”

Customers are invited to arrange an appointment to view the full features of the S6 with Scrub’s knowledgeable Avid specialists to see how Avid’s new modular mixing system can be custom configured to fit seamlessly with any professional workflow application.
