FlashMic firmware update adds powerful new features |
HHB Communications Ltd Stand 8.554 First shown at IBC 2005, HHB Communications’ FlashMic Digital Recording Microphone is now becoming standard issue with broadcasters and journalists the world over. Users appreciate the convenience of an ‘all in one' solution with easy file transfer, long battery life and exceptional sound quality, also citing as a major benefit the positive impression that the physical presence of a proper microphone – rather than a consumer portable recording device – has upon the interviewee. Now the feature set of the world’s first digital recording microphone is set to become even more comprehensive with the release of the V4.0 firmware update which will be available to existing users free of charge via the HHB website. Key enhancements of FlashMic V4.0 firmware include a new flash File system ensuring recordings are retained even if the batteries are removed while in Record, and the facility to introduce cue points during playback, enabling the user to begin compiling the finished piece as soon as the interview is over. This process is further enhanced by the facility to skip between tracks and markers in playback. Meter decay characteristics are significantly improved and the facility to meter level in both Idle and Play modes is particularly helpful when preparing for an interview. The FlashMic ships with FlashMic Manager software enabling more sophisticated configuration of the microphone via a Mac or PC, and this application has also been updated. Once again, existing users will be able to upgrade free of charge via the HHB website to the new version V4.0 which now provides the facility to transfer MPEG encoded files with either .wav or .mp2 extensions. Commenting on the new firmware and software releases, HHB Technical Manager Henry Edwards says, “With so many FlashMics now operating in such diverse applications, we are receiving a wide range of feedback from users. Naturally we’re committed to meeting our customers’ requirements and enhancing the operation of the FlashMic with regular firmware and software upgrades.” Editors' information: Founded in 1976, HHB Communications is Europe's leading supplier of professional audio equipment to the broadcast sector, post production facilities, recording studios, sound recordists, industrial and academic establishments.
