HHB supplies multi-camera Anycast system to aid teaching training in Worcestershire

HHB Communications, a specialist supplier of audio-visual technology to schools and colleges, has supplied a 3-camera video production system to Haybridge High School, a specialist-status training school in Worcestershire. Based around the powerful, yet easy-to-operate Sony AWSG500, Anycast Station and including two remote controlled Sony EVI-D70 cameras, the system enables teacher trainers to observe and record trainees at work in the classroom, cutting between video feeds and moving the cameras to focus on relevant activity within the room.

With the ability to handle multiple audio, video and computer graphics sources, the Anycast Station provides seamless integration of classroom video images with computer generated teaching material. In addition to video recording, the system can also output a simultaneous feed to the classroom projector and the Internet.

“The main attractions of the Anycast Station for schools and colleges are its friendly user interface and relatively low cost,” explains Andrew Hingley, Educational Sales Manager at London-based HHB. “For Haybridge High, we configured a system that is virtually 100% Sony, including a DSR-11 DVCAM recorder, a consumer DVD recorder and the Vegas 5 editing application. The result is a very powerful and flexible system that anyone can operate with a minimum of training.”

Speaking on behalf of Haybridge High, Training School Manager Bob Brush is thrilled with the new system. “Inexperienced staff can now observe experienced staff teaching, and vice-versa. We can examine newly qualified teachers, or anyone that needs support, without a distracting presence in the classroom. Furthermore, we can record the results and give immediate focused feedback after the lesson.”

“To the best of our knowledge, this is a unique application for the Anycast Station” continues Hingley. “It is more usually employed for live presentations in the corporate and broadcast arenas. However at HHB, we specialise in assisting our customers by finding new ways to apply technology and create affordable, easy-to-operate solutions that meet the specific needs of educators.”
