2006 sees HHB Communications, Europe’s leading independent supplier of professional audio equipment, celebrating 30 years in business. The occasion was marked with a party at the Belvedere in London’s Holland Park on June 24th, at which staff, customers, suppliers and friends from as far afield as the USA, Canada, India, Thailand and Europe, gathered to enjoy a relaxed get-together on a perfect English summer’s day.
Much has changed in the industry in 30 years, but most would agree that HHB has remained a constant beacon of quality throughout the period. “We’ve always tried to run a quality business and be a source of advice and support to our customers,” comments HHB’s Founder and Managing Director Ian Jones, himself celebrating a fiftieth birthday this year. “We’re proud of the role the company has played in pioneering digital audio technology, and of our continued innovation with groundbreaking products like our own HHB FlashMic the world’s first digital recording microphone.”
Today, HHB is active as a re-seller supplying products from more than 150 leading manufacturers, as a UK distributor representing leading brands including Røde, Eventide, PreSonus and Lynx, and as a manufacturer in its own right with award-winning products including the PORTADRIVE Location Sound Recorder, the aforementioned FlashMic and a range of professional recording media.
Counting many major broadcasters, recording facilities, artists and educational establishments among its customers, HHB publishes an annual 164-page product catalogue, which is widely viewed in the industry as the essential guide to professional audio technology. Most recently HHB increased its commitment to the post-production sector by opening a specialist division, Scrub, in the heart of the Soho film and television community.
“Thirty years is a significant milestone”, continues Jones. “The company continues to go from strength to strength and, with the hard work of our staff and the continued support of our customers and suppliers, HHB has grown to become one of the most successful professional audio businesses in the UK. On behalf of my fellow directors, I'd like to thank everyone who has contributed to that success, and to look forward to the next 30 years in the industry we all enjoy so much.”
